Our Second Touch
If my memory didn't fail me, it happened on a rainy day. It had been a gloomy morning and by dismissal time, it was already pouring heavily. I was waiting at the main gate for the rain to lighten, when she walked past me. She asked me how I was going home. When I told her I was waiting for the rain to stop, she offered to share her umbrella with me. I hesitated. I wasn't sure if I should accept the offer or just run home in the rain. But before I could answer her, she had already opened her umbrella and was waving me on. It was then that I decided to accept her offer so as not to embarass her. As I was taller, I offered to hold the umbrella while she walked closely beside me. That was the first time when my body was so close to hers. And that was also the first time I smelt her long silky hair and I didn't know that gal's hair smelt so nice until then. Just as I was drowning myself in the fragance of her hair, she suddenly slipped and instinctively gripped my hand to balance herself. That was our second touch and she didn't let go of my hand for the rest of the journey. I was then wishing for that moment to go into eternity but soon we were at her block. She let go of my hand and asked me to continue my journey home with her umbrella. I did as told and when I reached home I realised that I had been carrying a pink umbrella. No wonder some of the people were giggling behind my back as I passed them. But it was then that I realised that pink is such a beautiful colour and it has become one of my favourite colours since then. I kept the umbrella for a few days before returning it to her unwillingly. Believe it or not, I had actually prayed for it to rain at dismissal everyday but my prayers went unanswered. And when it did rain, either she didn't have her pink umbrella with her or she was sharing it with somebody else. It seemed that we were not fated to walk in the rain again until ........................
